HISTORY
The winery was founded in 1916 by a group of families with a long standing winemaking tradition. It was rebuilt and modernized in the late 1990's when a new young team brought in their expertise and new ideas.
VINEYARDS
The area gets 3000 hours of sunshine a year, little rain (about 300 litres per m2 annually) and has low temperatures in winter. The terruño (terroir) has a predominantly chalky, medium permeability soil and is 700 m above sea level. This winning combination of soil composition, favourable orientation and good climate coupled with skilled pruning forms the basis our 700 ha vineyard’.
GRAPE VARIETIES
Monastrell, the autonomous variety, has compact clusters and round berries, it was first documented in the 14 century although its us in this area for winemaking is previous to this date. It allows us to make red wines with an intense ruby colour, violet tones and abundant fruit aromas intense on the nose. It is meaty on the palate and has an average alcoholic content between 13 and 15, this results in lively, fresh young wines, crianzas and reserves that are rich, rounded and well-structured.
At Bodegas Luzón we also use other prestigious grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Souvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot and the white grapes Chardonnay and Macabeo.
TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION
The control process begins with a detailed study of the distinctive types of soil and how each variety is suited to the terroir, finishing with vinification and the final wine design.
The winery has all the modern technological equipment to guarantee quality and assure total traceability of the wines from the vineyard through to fermentation, vinification, ageing and bottling.
THE WINERY

THE WINES
The young wines are potent, full of character and meaty. The crianza reflects the genuine characteristic of the Monastrell grape, with and intense cherry red colour and aromas in which the wood is perfectly integrated with the fruit. On the palate it is rounded, expressive and potent without ever being aggressive and has a long and persistent finish.
The single varietals, Monastrell, Petit Verdot and Syrah offer a true reflection of the varietal characterists and excellent local terroir.
